RSG volunteers at Princes Trust Employability and Opportunity day
Yesterday, three of our consultants represented RSG at a Prince’s Trust Employability and Opportunity day. The event held at the Recreation Ground in Bath and hosted by Bath Rugby club, was a combined event with the Bath Rugby HITZ programme.
The purpose of the day was for young people who had recently completed or who were on programmes with the Prince’s Trust or HITZ to take a step towards employment, by working on their interview skills and to introduce them to relevant employers who attended on the day.
The employers who attended varied greatly, from sports coaching companies, a marquee construction company, to services provided at Bath University.
Our role during the day was to act as mentors to the young people attending, exploring their life and future career options and interests. Our consultants discussed with them which of the employers may be of interest and conducted practice interviews. In the afternoon, a career fair was set up, with each of the different employers setting up a base to give further information and to conduct interviews with the young people.
After the interviews with the employers, our team discussed the feedback they were given, and discussed the next steps to be taken in progressing their application with the relevant companies.
For some of the young people, this day resulted with a second stage interview offer. For others, it provided useful interview experience, and an opportunity to discuss and explore which employment opportunities may be of interest in the future. For all involved, it seemed to provide hope for the future, and a very real and positive step towards employment.
