Rounding up our Mental Health Awareness Month campaign

This May we ran a month-long campaign raising awareness of mental illness in collaboration with group companies Sanderson and Resource Management.

The campaign was run in order to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, and to tackle the stigma surrounding mental illness, especially in the workplace. We are hoping that the informative guides we have created have proved helpful in increasing understanding about mental health and mental illness. It is also our hope that, in the long-term, we can help to create a safe and supportive environment where people can open up about their experiences.

“As an organisation we have spent a great deal of time talking about mental health issues this month as a direct result of the awareness campaign. In itself this is positive but, since the launch, I have also had the opportunity to sit and talk with many colleagues about heir personal challenges, something that they might well not have done until the issue was raised. Overall I think this campaign provides us with areal platform to build on to make sure all of our staff are well supported. If we can help just one person who is experiencing mental health challenges by demonstrating to them that they are not alone and that others are going through similar things then this campaign will have been worthwhile.”

- Adam Meadows - Managing Director at RSG

We have been lucky enough to hear directly from Adam Meadows, Managing Director and Alistair Collier, Regional Manager of the North, about their experiences with mental illness. We are grateful that Adam and Alistair have opened up about their mental health and shared their personal stories.

As well as hearing stories from colleagues, we were also visited by the mental health charity Mind who provided us with information on how to look after our wellbeing at work, which we have then been able to share across the company. We also hosted a guided meditation session which proved incredibly successful, teaching staff practical techniques for managing stressful situations through the practice of mindfulness.

For help and information on mental illness and where to go for help, our guides provide an outline of different support available and how to get it. The following websites also provide excellent support and guidance for mental health issues:
