As with any career, it is worth asking yourself several key questions before you pursue recruitment as your job of choice. Good money with no prior experience needed are truths which job adverts regularly boast, but these statements donít encompass what working in recruitment truly entails. Consider these three points to determine whether you are right for a career in recruitment.

1) Personality


Would you rather take home a consistent salary each month or be responsible for how little or much you earn? The ability to drive your own results could be a blessing or a curse depending on your aptitude for working to targets and self-motivating. The perfect candidate for a role is a tricky thing to find and once youíve found them the client still may not hire them. Recruitment requires a resilient attitude, particularly so when your placements are falling through for no fault of your own, so clarify in your mind whether this is something you will take in your stride or feel frustrated by. Financial benefits and progression are both very possible when working in this industry but learning the ropes and accepting set backs along the way are an essential precursor to this, you will not reap the rewards without putting the work in first, you must be self-motivated and driven. For those who love working in recruitment, this challenge is all part of the fun!

2) Training

It is true that working in recruitment is possible without former training or previous experience. 3) Targets

At RSG we do not incentivise revenue targets, but instead we incentivise positive behaviours. We do not believe in the traditional approach to targets which often finds consultants pitted against each other to make placements, we prefer apositive team-work environment.Our approach isnít typical and doesnít reflect your average experience in recruitment, it does however still require similar personality traits. You will need to be someone who responds well to the expectation of meeting targets and always working to specific goals as you will be measured and reviewed regularly. In essence, itís all about the effort you put in, if you can consistently do this you will do well in recruitment.
