Two teams from local recruitment organisation Resource Solutions Group Plc (RSG) have collectively raised over £4500 for charity Action Medical Research, after they completed a gruelling 40 mile walk last weekend.
Stuart Adams, Charlie Ten-Broeke, Johnny Hiles, Chesney Windsor and Oli Dawe joined their colleagues Jon Ball, Mark Beale, Paul Bennett, James McNicol and David Nock for the challenge, which saw them walk non-stop across the rough terrain of the Cotswold Way.
The teams set off from Dursley in South Gloucestershire at midnight last Friday, finishing at Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham some 14 hours later. 28 teams in total took part in the challenge, with the contingent from RSG performing strongly, finishing in second and sixth place, respectively.
Stuart Adams, Team Leader for Sanderson Recruitment Plc said: "Action Medical Research is a fantastic charity that we were all delighted to raise funds for. They're dedicated to helping and improving the health of babies and children in the UK. They fund research into developing pioneering treatments and equipment for childhood conditions and diseases.
"The experience itself was the hardest physical challenge any of us have ever done. One of the guys in the winning team had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro two weeks earlier, and said this was far more difficult. The challenge required the endurance of effectively two marathons, but we also had to overcome sleep deprivation, a variety of weather conditions and difficult terrain. However, the fantastic cause we were raising funds for kept us all going."
The teams’ fundraising efforts were boosted by RSGs generous ‘Matched Giving’ scheme. Every member of the 150 staff employed by the Bristol-based company is entitled to claim up to £400 in each calendar year from the ‘Matched Giving’ scheme for a charity for which they have either raised money for or given time to.
HR & Communications Director Sara Pitkin said: "We are very proud to be able to support our employees with their fundraising efforts. They have all worked really hard with their training and trying to raise awareness, so we are delighted to be able to match their efforts.
"RSG is one of the most profitable companies in the South West and we are keen to give back to society by supporting good causes and getting involved with local events. As part of our overall Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, the ‘Matched Giving’ scheme was established to encourage our staff to get involved in the voluntary sector, and so far we have seen an impressive uptake."
